The Family and Consumer Sciences Collaborative Grant was awarded to Mt. San Antonio College. The Grant staff, under the leadership of Joann Driggers, has many activities planned in the coming year. First, a series of Professional Development Workshops is planned during 2009-2010, one for each of the FCS disciplines. The first two were Consumer Studies, November 6, and Interior Design, November 7. Fashion is scheduled for March 19 in Santa Ana, Nutrition, Foods and Culinary Arts, April 16 in Downey and Hospitality in May in San Jose. Gerontology will be in conjuntion with the CCGG meeting in April in Westwood.
All full and part-time faculty are invited to attend at least one workshop. Deans, counselors, high school and community partners, and a couple of students that deserve a reward or encouragement are also welcome. There will be no cost to attendees. Meals will be served, and in some cases space is limited, so reservations are a MUST.
Additional workshops in the planning stages include Family Studies, Fashion, Gerontology, Hospitality, and Nutrition, Food Science and Culinary Arts. For Child Development, the Grant will support a special guest speaker at the annual CAYCE conference.
A second project underway is the Program Showcase. Nine programs across the state have been selected to submit multimedia presentations describing the unique aspects of their individual program using PowerPoint, photos, and video. These will be posted on the website in late fall. With so many of our travel budgets limited, this will be a great way to “see” other programs.
